Archeology: Trepucó
This talaiotic settlement is located approximately 2 kilometers after Maó in the direction of Sant Lluís.
It features:
- an enormous central talaiot
- a smaller talaiot at the enclosure
- stone constructions (defence towers)
-
an enormous taula
(A talaiot is the name given to fortifications made of stone, partly also used as funeral sites and cultural places. They consisted of several houses and a defence tower that was surrounded by a wall. The word Talaiot comes from the Arabic at-talayi = shield). The settlement has an extension of some 5,000 square metres. In the 17th century, French troops took advantage of the strategic situation of this settlement to prepare the assault of the Sant Felip Castle.
